with what we are lending about the shootout. cornell? >> a very, very sad day in santa cruz, a city in mourning mourning the death of two believes killed in the line of document when they came to the home, at north branciforte, the suspect opened fire. they have been combing every inch of the crime scene. we have new video. several cars were reof -- removed from the property, a white luxus with bullet holes. detective sergeant butch baker and his colleague, elizabeth but her lost their lives on tuesday when they responded to the home. they were met with gunfire. the officers were killed. we were overhead minutes later. half an hour later the 35-year-old suspect was spotted and chased by police. he was shot and killed during the pursuit. police chief says his department now is coming to grip with the tragedy. >> there are not words to describe how i feel personally about there and how my department is reacting to this horrific tragedy. >> the chaplains are counseling fellow officers today and through the week while a growing memorial of candles, thousand worries, cards, and prayers n

school to help climbing enrollment. our media partner reports the menlo park city school district could re-open the former o'connor school on elliott drive this time for 2014 school year. right now a private school leases the campus. the school district is projecting 8 percent rise in enrollment the next 10 years and a meeting will take place next week. a san bruno elementary school will close the scene end of the school year after a battle to save it fell short. the school board debated until midnight before voting to chose the elementary school to ease a $1.5 million deficit. it was located at site of the 2010 deadly gas explosion. it was not closed last year because the kids had been too much. only 65 students attend the school. some will be transferred to a mile away at beyond muir elementary. >> a controversial pill women take to prevent pregnancy. but, first, a valentine's day protest by same-sex marriage couples. >> we have 680, tail lights headed southbound, and traffic volume is picking up, and traffic is weather, together, next. >> we are back at ten minutes after the hour, wi

from injuries received when she was hit by a muni bus in daly city. the accident happened about 4:30 yesterday afternoon. it involved the 1846 avenue bus. woman hit by the bus while in the crosswalk. family members were telling abc news the woman's injuries are very serious. they have signed a "do not resuscitate" form. muni driver will undergo standard drug and alcohol testing. >> in oakland police are investigating a fatal shooting that happened near a bart station. sky 7hd was overhead as police responded to reports of gunfire on peralta near 8th street yesterday evening. it's close to the bart station. officers found a man with a gunshot wound to the head. homicide investigators blocked off access to the intersection right after the shooting. bart service was not affected. a follow lane on the richmond-san rafael bridge will stay closed for most of today. it's part of the ongoing installation of a new automated toll collection system. it's expect today reopen in time for tomorrow morning's holiday commute. the current toll system is 15 years old and officials say it needs to b
